Pokemon developer reveals magical anime girl game controlled by real-world weather

Game Freak has revealed a magical anime girl mobile game directed by Pokemon series director Shigeru Ohmori, and it features gameplay impacted by IRL weather conditions.

Following on from the exciting announcement of Pokemon Winds and Waves for the Switch 2, Game Freak has another game for anime fans to look forward to: Rainy Day, Sunny Girl.

The upcoming free-to-play mobile game doesn’t involve Pikachu and his Pocket Monster pals, but it does feature a cast of colorful anime girls who can transform weather into attacks.

Unlike other character-driven gacha games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves, Rain Day, Sunny Girl’s combat is impacted by IRL weather, and it’s just as interesting as it sounds.

Rainy Day, Sunny Girl is being co-developed by Game Freak and Chronogate, with Pokemon series director Shigeru Ohmori serving as director and producer. If that isn’t eye-catching enough, then the colorful anime girl cast and weather-based combat may pique your interest.

According to the translated press release, real-world sunshine, rain, clouds, and snow will directly affect how the game plays. This means players will need to strategize around Japan’s weather forecast, something I’d never considered when sitting down for a quick gaming sesh.

If that wasn’t unusual enough, the game also features a laundry system that tasks players with washing said magical girl outfits after fights (I told you it was unique!). By washing the girls’ clothes, you’ll “restore their condition and prepare them for their next patrol.”

The outfits are super important too, as each magical girl can equip clothes that allows them to enter different forms and unleash weather-based magic in battle. Oh, and each member also gets assistance from cute creatures known as Kumorin (it wouldn’t be Game Freak game without little creature companions).
