PlayStation is giving users another reason to visit the PlayStation Store, with Naughty Dog celebrating The Last of Us Day by handing out free content. While the Naughty Dog promotion is tied to the beloved Last of Us IP, it's worth noting that no one needs to pay anything to grab related content on PlayStation right now. Instead, Naughty Dog has released a new code that can be redeemed for the four available free items.
The giveaway is part of a larger The Last of Us Day celebration that is currently taking place. Naughty Dog has announced several activities for the occasion, including a charity stream, more new content for Ghost of Yotei, a limited-edition Clicker collectible, and new digital items for both PlayStation and PC. The studio is also launching official social media accounts for The Last of Us as part of this year's celebration.
The main freebie for PlayStation users is four new avatars that can be redeemed with an official code. The avatars feature symbols associated with The Last of Us, including the Seraphites, the W.L.F., and Ellie's recognizable space pin. Naughty Dog confirms that all four avatars can be downloaded using a regional code, giving PS4 and PS5 players a new way to customize their profiles for free.
For users in the Americas, the code is QDFN-GT5D-AMG7. Naughty Dog has separate codes for Europe and Australia, Japan, Korea, and other parts of Asia, so players should use the code corresponding to their region, as seen above. The avatars are being offered as part of The Last of Us Day and are not tied to content given away on PlayStation Plus, meaning the promotion is not simply another perk locked behind a subscription. The four avatars are not the only free PlayStation content being offered. Naughty Dog has also added a Last of Us-themed background to the PlayStation Welcome Hub for the first time, with dynamic effects including smoke around Joel and embers around Abby because of the relationship between Joel and Abby in The Last of Us 2. The studio says the new downloadable items are available on PlayStation and PC, while the four avatars specifically give PS4 and PS5 users something they can put directly on their profiles.
Naughty Dog's Last of Us Day celebration also includes a sale on PC, with The Last of Us discounted by 50% and The Last of Us 2 discounted by 33% beginning October 1 at 10 AM PDT. They still won't exactly be cheap games on Steam, but they'll be significantly cheaper with those discounts. For PlayStation users, though, the four free avatars are arguably the simplest part of the celebration to claim: enter the official regional code, download the avatars, and they can be used to give a PS4 or PS5 profile some Last of Us flair without spending anything.
