Shift at Midnight is a horror game that gives you the story in bits throughout your shifts. Some information is learned through customers, but you tend to get the bulk of your information through store notices, emails, phone calls, and news segments that you see at the end of the night every few shifts.

With how scarce the story information is and the way that it's distributed through the shifts, you might not realize that there are three potential endings you can get in Shift at Midnight. Which ending you receive boils down to one choice you make on Night 12 and how much money you have in your personal savings.

The ending you get depends on what you choose when you get a phone call on Night 12. If you have enough money saved up from your shifts, then you can get the best ending. If you don't have enough money, then there's going to be a death, and you have to pick who dies. For the sake of simplicity, I'll call each ending by the name of the achievement you unlock when you earn that ending.

Look, if there's an ending in any game where your pet dies, I consider that the bad ending. Therefore, this is the bad ending in Shift at Midnight. For this ending, you have less than $250 in your account, and you don't call Clyde during Night 12. As a result, your pet doesn't get the care they need and dies.

This is the good ending, but not the best ending. To get it, you make the decision to call Clyde on Night 12 when you don't have $250 or more in your accounts. By calling Clyde, you're able to get the treatment your dog needs to survive. However, this call leads to Clyde's death, and that's an exchange that I'm perfectly willing to make.

If you feel morally compromised by the other ending options, then you probably want to work towards getting the True Ending, which is quite difficult due to the way the shifts work. For this ending, you need to have at least $250 in your account, and not call Clyde on Night 12. You're able to pay to save your dog, and you don't get Clyde killed.

The problem with getting the True Ending is saving up that much money from just 12 shifts. If you're paying for your dog's medicine every few days, then that's $40 each time. On top of that, you only bring home $50 at most from a standard shift. Saving up $250 for your dog's treatment simply isn't easy.
