Just about every online multiplayer game lately has been chasing the proverbial dragon birthed by Fortnite, specifically in regard to player skins. Call of Duty: Warzone, for example, has previously added more emphasis on Battle Royale content, and has a large catalog of different skins available for player purchase, ranging from the usual soldier dudes to stuff like evil clowns, werewolves, and Stan from American Dad. It’s nice to have variety, certainly, but it can also clash a bit with the game’s generally more serious tone and aesthetic.
Because of this, players have been requesting for a long time some manner of toggle to hide weird skins from the game and let them focus more on what they’re doing. In direct response to these requests, the developers have provided exactly that. Or, well, will provide exactly that starting with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4.
Call of Duty staff announced on the franchise’s official website today that, starting with the new Modern Warfare 4 season, Warzone players will be able to start using an in-game toggle that will individually hide non-standard skins from sight. If you’re tired of seeing the Ninja Turtles and Squid Game soldiers in your matches, this one’s for you.
According to the developers’ announcement, the new Operator skin toggle can be turned on and off on a player-by-player basis. Even if one player turns it on, it won’t be turned on for every other player in a match, so if you do still want to see weird skins, you don’t need to worry about that.
When the toggle is activated, all players in a given match that have an Operator skin from a different Call of Duty game equipped will automatically have their appearance changed to that of a generic Modern Warfare 4 Operator. This effect applies to squadmates, party members, and enemies, and the change is visible both in-game and in the lobby. The only character it doesn’t affect is your own; if you have a different skin equipped, you’ll still be able to see your own skin in-game as normal, though anyone else who has the toggle turned on won’t see it.
