Ken Kutaragi, nicknamed the father of PlayStation, has shared his thoughts on the modern gaming landscape.

Speaking at a recent panel during the opening ceremony of CEREC (Creative Entertainment Research and Education Center), he talks about how far games have come and their potential for the future, stressing that it's important for creators to keep pushing the envelope.

As reported by 4Gamer (translated by Automaton), Kutaragi discusses the game industry's impressive scale; the software market is valued at $186 billion, surpassing other media like film and music.

Despite this, he doesn't view it as a mature industry, because he feels it's yet to reach its limits and predicts there are still breakthroughs to be made in the space.

Kutaragi also feels that, while games have evolved a lot and are much more advanced than they used to be, they have stagnated in terms of the content they provide. He says the way games are made has not fundamentally changed since the arrival of the original PlayStation.

He goes on to say he feels the industry is reaching a turning point, where it can advance to the "next stage."

Kutaragi talks about how the PS1 was created with the intent to "change the world", and that the industry "created the world’s most cutting-edge technology" rather than followed it.

He urges students and industry professionals to adopt a similar mindset in order to keep things moving forward.
