Changing class in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is done by passing certification exams in Dagsion. The feature unlocks early during every Part 1 path, when an unavoidable tutorial gives your Flame Lord their first class change for free.
Afterwards, you can buy the appropriate licences and take further exams in Dagsion's Temple district. Unlocking a class requires a licence and a successful exam, but switching between classes you have already earned is free.
In Dagsion, climb the steps in the centre of the Temple district. Two nearby NPCs handle the class system:
You are introduced to both early in each path. The tutorial is part of the main progression and cannot be missed, so every route gives its Flame Lord an initial opportunity to change class.
To certify a unit for a standard class:
The exam screen previews far more than the unit's appearance. It shows how the class changes stat growth, which skills it can use, the skill-experience bonuses it grants and the ranks affecting the exam.
A unit does not always need to meet every listed skill recommendation before attempting an ordinary exam. Their current ranks determine the displayed pass chance, which can range from 0 percent to 100 percent.
Training the class's primary and secondary skills improves those odds. The exam screen uses colour-coded ranks to show where the unit falls short, while the Ideal Lv provides a useful indication of when that tier is designed to become practical — trying to unlock a class for a unit that isn't a high-enough level will be very much an uphill battle, it's one of the most impactful requirements.
