Digital Foundry has provided its tech review for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, including some crucial commentary on the Switch 2 version.
That's what we'll focus on here, but you can check out the above video for information on other platforms too. Starting with performance, DF notes that this is probably the best Switch 2 release from Capcom so far thanks to an optional 30fps mode.
You can unlock the frame rate if you wish, and in our experience this proved to be perfectly playable, but capping it at 30fps results in much more stable gameplay with a slight bump in visual quality. Speaking more broadly about the visuals, Onimusha naturally doesn't look quite as good as other platforms, with some notable decrease in contrast and resolution, but it's overall a fine-looking game.
Resolution tops out at 1080p in docked mode, but it can dip below this. Portable mode, meanwhile, reaches 900p. Comparing the visuals to the PS5 Pro version, DF says that "it holds up pretty darn well", providing the full Onimusha experience despite some understandable cutbacks.
We awarded Onimusha: Way of the Sword a score of 9/10, calling it "a successful revival of Capcom's samurai franchise that pushes its gameplay in an exciting new direction while still retaining its core identity".
