Halloween time at Disneyland is my favorite time. Whether it’s the fall-favorite food that rolls out, the spooky-themed merch, the unique overlays for rides, there is something about the Southern California parks during this season that is hard to beat. I know that many will prefer Holidays at Disneyland because of the importance of that season to so many, but for my money, Halloween is where Disneyland shines the brightest. For 2026, Disneyland and California Adventure have combined familiar favorites with some new merch and food items to give guests a Halloween time experience that will surely put a smile on their face.
Disneyland invited us out to the parks to experience everything that is on offer this year during the Fall season, including new and returning food items, a closer look at the new designs for merch and the parks’ decorations, the various entertainment that is available throughout both parks, and, of course, to hop on a ride or two. Even if you’re not a fan of Halloween, Disneyland and California Adventure still can’t be beat when it comes to delivering a memorable theme park experience, and while there are some spooky-themed elements here and there, most of the theming and overlays are family-friendly.
Obviously, I’m only one person, and there are tons of new/returning food items to try, but if I could pick one highlight besides my favorites like that Toasted Cheese, it would be the Waffle Macaron. It’s not fall or Halloween-themed per se, but it captured the flavor of a buttery, syrupy waffle so perfectly. Disneyland loves its creative Macarons and this one is up there with the best they’ve made, right alongside the Snickers Macaron that is a fan favorite during the Food and Wine Festival in California Adventure.
I’m always eager to see what design aesthetic or theming that Disney chooses for its merch during Halloween, and this year there are some really great options. As a big Headless Horseman fan, I’m happy to report there are quite a few different clothing options, but if you want something more traditional, the Fab Five have some fantastic designs. This year’s Popcorn Bucket features Mickey in a vampire costume, complete with a light-up pumpkin, for example.
Haunted Mansion Holiday is one of the big ticket items of both Halloween and the Holidays, and there is a lot of fun new merch themed around Nightmare Before Christmas this year. Disneyland and California Adventure lean hard into NBC during the Halloween time, with both a variety of merchandise options, decorations around DCA, and the annual Oogie Boogie Bash. It’s a separately ticketed event that lets guests stay late in the park and interact with villains like Yzma, Agatha Harkness, and Ernesto De La Cruz from Coco.
Merch and food are highlights, but they are additive to Halloween time at Disneyland and California Adventure. If you want to experience everything that Disney has available during the season - and there’s quite a bit - you will be kept plenty busy.
One of the biggest signs that a new season has hit are the new outfits for the Disney icons (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, etc.). Usually you get both a fall and a Halloween-inspired outfit, and this year there are some really fun ones. While I didn't get to see all of their looks for this year, I did get to see Goofy and Minnie, both of which look fantastic as always.
In terms of entertainment, California Adventure has the Plaza de la Familia, which features a Coco-inspired Day of the Dead area with tons of decorations and regular performances. There’s also the Mickey’s Trick and Treat show in the Disney theater, another family friendly offering in the same space that housed Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! during the 70th Anniversary celebration. Music is a big part of Disneyland and California Adventure entertainment, and these two shows are perfect examples of that. Trick and Treat, on top of offering a nice respite from the Southern California heat, is a chance for your little ones to burn off a little energy and see Mickey and Co. in some really fun costumes.
