MindsEye was pretty comfortably one of the worst games to release in 2025, and I'm sure the vast majority of people would agree with that statement. It was a buggy mess, barely functioning properly, and while it would be understandable to point and laugh at the developers, it's been reported that they underwent brutal crunching and a lot have been laid off regardless.
A lot of the woes of Mindseye lie at the feet of the higher-ups, who went on a tirade after the game's disastrous reviews went live, blaming the problems with the game on internal "sabotage" despite none of that being proven by law enforcement, and nobody getting arrested for it. It was very bizarre, but through it all Mindseye has continued to receive updates for the dozen or so players it still has.
Now, over a year after launch, MindsEye developer Build A Rocket Boy seems to believe that it's turned its fortunes around, and has released an almost definitely AI-generated press release explaining just how well it's been doing and how it definitely wasn't salty about the game's initial release.
It's a bizarre press release, mostly because it's not actually announcing anything. It talks about the game's initial launch, and its reception, which the studio believes it took a different approach to.
"The easiest response to a difficult launch is to become defensive," reads the statement. "Explain the criticism away. Promise that players 'just don't understand the vision.' Build A Rocket Boy chose a different path. It kept shipping."
That's quite a statement given that the higher ups at Build a Rocket Boy were quite possibly the most defensive individuals I've ever seen in the gaming space, refusing to acknowledge that the game was broken at launch, and instead deciding to blame seemingly invented saboteurs by using Mindseye updates to prove their wrongdoing. However, it's the next statement that's the most absurd.
"Most comeback stories are remembered for one defining moment.
Its recovery happened in plain sight, one update at a time.
