While there is plenty of excitement around Monster Hunter Wilds with its upcoming Ascendance DLC expansion on the horizon, it isn't just a new storyline and monsters that players have to look forward to. With numerous returning monsters, exciting locales to visit, and a plethora of new combat mechanics for each weapon, Ascendance is already shaping up to be an excellent addition to Wilds.
Although you'll have to wait until next year when Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance releases to discover everything else coming with the DLC, Capcom just teased several quality-of-life changes coming as a free update that players have been begging for since release.
In addition to streamlining purchasing Wilds with its new editions and price decrease, Capcom has announced several features like putting an end to paid character edit vouchers and an option to bring back the classic UI from previous entries, as noted by MHKogath on X.
In terms of what the UI changes announced by Capcom will actually adjust, you'll be able to change several new settings, which include moving the in-game clock to the top left of the screen next to your health and stamina bar, as well as replacing the reactive squiggle with a more clearly identifiable line similar to previous entries.
Monster Hunter Wilds' highly controversial character vouchers are also getting completely overhauled in the free update, with Capcom ending sales of them entirely on December 3, 2026. After this date, players will receive 10 free Character Edit Vouchers and 10 free Palico Edit Vouchers to use until the release of Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance, after which the functionality will be free without needing a voucher at all.
If you've already purchased any character edit vouchers in the past, Capcom is offering two free cosmetics in the form of the Heavenly Hog and Beelzeboar pendants.
For smaller quality-of-life features, the release of the free 2.0 update arriving alongside Ascendance will also add a fast weapon swap without getting on your Seikret, changing equipment from the item box without having to enter your tent, bulk loadout saving and customization, as well as numbered displays of monster toughness as opposed to the more vague star system currently in the game.
The response to the changes has already been going over incredibly well with players so far, with fans cheering that the "golden age is coming back" for the series after hearing about the update.
