4 Brand-New Nintendo 64 Games Are Officially Available Now

While it may be 2026 and not the late 1990s, the Nintendo 64 has recently received four brand-new video games thanks to ModRetro. These Nintendo 64 games come on N64 cartridges and can be played on the classic video game console—no strings attached. Of course, retro hardware has only gotten pricier, and some folks may not have one stored away in their closet. The core collection developer, ModRetro, has also created an alternative "M64" capable of playing these games, but for many folks, the appeal is taking that N64 out of the closet.

As gaming gets more expensive, as gaming hardware gets more expensive, and as companies like PlayStation insist digital ownership is impossible, classic and retro hardware reminds fans of cheaper, simpler days. The Nintendo 64 is one of those machines, not to mention that several Nintendo 64 games are still bangers today. Still, if someone wants a new cartridge to plug into a Nintendo 64, ModRetro has them covered.

ModRetro, alongside its M64, has launched four new Nintendo 64 games that are easily and 100% completely playable on the retro console: Xibalba 64, Xeno Crisis, Buck Bumble, and Extreme-G: Turbo Fusion. The first is a brand-new first-person shooter that throws players into high-tech bases, ancient catacombs, and jungle environments inspired by classic 1990s shooters. Players use an assortment of heavy weapons to fight through maze-like levels filled with traps, hidden paths, ambushes, and environmental hazards. Of the bunch, Xibalba 64 has received a ton of noteworthy praise since its release.

Xeno Crisis is a twin-stick-style arena shooter that puts players in control of battle-hardened marines fighting through a research outpost overrun by aliens. Players can tackle the campaign alone or with another player, battling through seven areas filled with enemy waves and bosses while rescuing survivors and working toward the source of the outbreak. Extreme-G: Turbo Fusion combines the original Extreme-G and Extreme-G: XG2 into one Nintendo 64 package focused on extremely fast futuristic racing. Players race anti-gravity bikes around high-speed tracks while managing their boost, navigating tight corners, and using weapons to attack opponents. Missiles, mines, invisibility, and the infamous Willy Warp can all change the outcome of a race.

Finally, Buck Bumble is a modern recreation of the classic and one of the first major additions to ModRetro's classic N64 collection. In it, players are a cyborg bumblebee fighting a mutant insect army. After a chemical spill creates the Evil Herd, Buck must fly through rural England while completing mission-based objectives and battling enemies with an assortment of weapons. Players can fly, hover, brake, and perform loop-de-loops while using a radar to track enemies, giving the game a unique aerial combat system for an N64 shooter.
