GTA 6 finally launches on November 19, and will no doubt tide us over for another decade when the Online mode eventually follows. But already, fans are looking to the sequel, and wondering where exactly Rockstar might take us next.
With the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, we will have revisited every major city from the 3D games: Liberty City, Los Santos, and Vice City. So, the question is, will Rockstar repeat the cycle and return to Liberty City yet again, or branch out and make a brand-new, wholly original setting? Fans are hoping for the latter, and they have a few ideas in mind.
Replying to a popular post on the series’ subreddit (that unfortunately features an AI map), a popular suggestion was a fictional version of Chicago. "There’s so much mob history there and it’s an amazing city.”
“Chicago was practically made to be the setting for a GTA game,” u/Downtown_Biscotti434 said. “It’s almost absurd Rockstar hasn’t done it yet.”
Others suggested a GTA spin on Philadelphia or Baltimore, or even a modern-day St Denis, directly connecting to Red Dead Redemption 2. I mean, there are already theories that Jason and Arthur are related.
“How about Texas?” chimed in u/LooseLeaf74. “Even things up a bit when every NPC has a gun.”
A surprisingly common setting discussed in the comments is a return to London, which last featured in an expansion for the very first Grand Theft Auto in 1999—nearly three decades ago. It’d be interesting to see Rockstar approach a city with strict gun regulations in an attempt to make something still recognizably GTA.
Detroit, Seattle, Hong Kong, Mexico, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, North Yankton, and Paris were also thrown out, though some are stringent that it must be in the US. But that still leaves room for experimentation. “Hawaii could be another interesting option,” u/Stomach-Green said. “Cool vibes, and it’s already on an island.”
