Control Resonant is a pretty big departure from developer Remedy Entertainment's usual style of over-the-shoulder third-person shooter gameplay. Instead of going for guns, Dylan sports a range of melee weaponry to take advantage of, with the game itself being more of a classic hack and slash this time around.
While it's a pretty fun and varied combat system, there are a couple of missing features that really drive home how new the concept is to Remedy. One of the biggest complaints about the game so far is the lack of a weapon to wheel to quickly switch between weapons in combat. Instead, you have to pause the fight to go into your inventory, switch weapons, and then back out.
However, we all know that modders will often step in when an official developer is caught sleeping at the wheel, and a couple of mods have released since the game's launch that people are using to turn the game into a full-blown Devil May Cry entry.
The first mod in question is the aforementioned weapon wheel, which was uploaded by Kkyleeb21 to Nexus Mods a couple of days ago. Titled "Combat Controls Overhaul" this mod essentially adds a weapon wheel that can be used mid-fight to switch between primary weapons, as well as switch between powers more easily too. It makes things a lot more fluid.
Secondly, a DMC-style ranking system mod has also been created by a Nexus Mods user called Fame2gin, which will give you a ranking from the Board based on how well you do in combat, and how many different abilities that you use. The ranks range from D all the way up to the classic SSS score that Devil May Cry fans will be very familiar with.
If you combine both of these mods, you essentially turn Control Resonant into something more akin to Devil May Cry, and I'm honestly hoping that Remedy takes a bit of inspiration from these mods and makes them official. However, it's New Game ++ and the much-needed Photo Mode that are up first in Remedy's post-launch plans. After that, who knows?
