Despite being at his utmost limit in the battle, Luffy seems to be holding the upper hand at this point in time in the fight. However, this is likely not going to stay the case for long.
In fact, One Piece chapter 1192 officially sets up the end of Monkey D. Luffy in Elbaf, at least for now. Luffy is currently fighting for Elbaf at the cost of his own life, and the price to pay against the King of the World for the defense of the Country of Giants is most certainly going to be incredibly heavy, potentially his whole life.
One Piece chapter 1192 was officially released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41 on September 6, 2026, and it showcased Luffy and Loki fighting together against Imu. At this point, there is no doubt that the King of the World, who appeared in Elbaf in One Piece chapter 1179, released on April 5, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue 19, is the strongest in the country. Neither Luffy nor Loki can take Imu on individually in battle, so the two have decided to team up against him. While Luffy certainly managed to gain the upper hand in chapter 1192, especially towards the end when he combined with Loki, Usopp's statement from the chapter was a harrowing wake-up call for the fans. Even though Luffy is currently managing to get in some hits on Imu, at the end of the day, all he's doing is delaying the inevitable.

In that sense, Usopp reaffirmed that Luffy is actually sacrificing himself for the sake of Elbaf and all the Giants who helped him across the Grand Line, be it Little Garden, Enies Lobby, or Dressrosa. Usopp's comments about Luffy sacrificing himself set up a very dark and ominous ending for One Piece’s Elbaf arc. Up until now, most fans might have been under the impression that Luffy would somehow gain a victory over Nerona Imu in Elbaf, but with Usopp's big moment of speech in One Piece chapter 1192, it is now officially confirmed that Luffy's main plan in Elbaf is to die with pride while fighting Imu, even if victory is impossible.
While One Piece chapter 1192 is officially setting up the end of Monkey D. Luffy, it must be said that Luffy is not going to die in Elbaf as he intends to. After all, Luffy is the main character of One Piece, and we have followed his journey over the last 29 years. As such, regardless of what happens to Luffy, Elbaf must not fall. In other words, Elbaf is still going to end in a symbolic victory for Luffy and the Strawhat Pirates.

Secondly, Luffy versus Imu is also a prelude to the actual battle between these two that is to come later down the line. Luffy is the new Joy Boy of the current world, and at this point in time, Imu is simply too strong compared to him. Luffy must lose his battle against Imu here to prepare better for the fight that's to come in the future.
