PlayStation Plus got a makeover in 2022, when the subscription service was split into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential is the cheapest option and gives you access to online features, plus a handful of free games each month. Extra costs a little more and gets you everything that Essential comes with, plus access to a library of PS5 and PS4 titles. Then you have Premium, the most expensive tier, which includes all of that, a selection of classic games to play, and other features, including PS Portal cloud streaming capabilities.
If you prefer your games to be the exact opposite of that, then I'd recommend you start your Essential September journey with Wobbly Life. I would especially recommend Wobbly Life if you enjoyed last month's Essential headliner, Big Walk. If you just want sports games, MLB The Show 26 is now available through Essential, and Chained Echoes brings the total to four.
PlayStation has yet to announce which new games will be added to Extra in September. You can find August's additions below and this article will be updated when September's titles are revealed.
PlayStation adds more PS5 and PS4 games to its Extra library each month, and August's additions have now been revealed. Potentially the biggest month for the subscription service's middle tier in recent memory, as there are a lot of games you won't want to miss, especially if you have never played them before.
The big one is Helldivers 2. The smash-hit sequel's Devoid of Liberty update went live on August 12, and the game joined PS Plus on the same day to celebrate. If you have never played Helldivers 2 before and you have PS Plus, drop everything you're doing and make this your next game. If you're a lapsed player, like me, there has never been a time to get back to it.
If the multiplayer chaos of Helldivers isn't your thing, some top-tier single-player games are coming to Extra this month, too. Only a little more than a year after its release, Game of the Year nominee Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 joins PS Plus on August 18. The very different, but just as fantastic, Vampire Survivors joins it on Extra the same day.
The staggered rollout of Extra games continues as the other five Extra games won't be available until August 25. That quintet of new arrivals includes Metro Exodus, Hell is Us, and one of the most underrated games of 2025, Two Point Museum. It's also the game released last year that I have more hours in than any other.
Even though we don't know which Extra games will be added to PS Plus yet this month, we do know one of the Premium titles coming our way thanks to September's State of Play. We just don't know the exact date on which it will be here.
