The Yonko, also known as the Four Emperors of the Sea, were officially introduced to us in One Piece chapter 432 on October 30, 2006, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 48. At the time, Garp introduced the Yonko as the four most powerful pirates who sail the seas, specifically the New World, and rule it like Kings to such a degree that even the Navy fears to oppose them.
While the Yonko themselves are incredibly powerful, under them is a group of powerful Commanders who are just as impressive. Among the Yonko Commanders, Eiichiro Oda has highlighted several powerful individuals over the years, but none can come even remotely close to the absolute strongest, who was officially confirmed to us in the most recent One Piece manga release of chapter 1194 on September 27, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 44. This new strongest Yonko Commander is none other than Dracule Mihawk, the world's strongest swordsman, who serves under Yonko Buggy.
Yonko Commanders are incredibly powerful, and over the years, they have played a significant role in the story, especially when it comes to aiding Luffy's progression on his path to becoming the Pirate King. Luffy has faced quite a few Yonko Commanders, such as Cracker, who held a bounty of 860 million berries, and Charlotte Katakuri, with a bounty of 1.057 billion berries. At the same time, Yonko Commanders make up other powerful enemies as well, such as King and Queen for Zoro and Sanji in the Wano Country arc. While all these Yonko Commanders are powerful, there are some that are a cut above the rest. Ben Beckman, the Vice Captain of the Red Hair Pirates, is one such example, but the strongest of them all is quite clearly Dracule Mihawk, who serves the Cross Guild, a group led by Yonko Buggy.
In One Piece chapter 1194, released officially on September 27, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 44, Eiichiro Oda confirmed Dracule Mihawk, the world's strongest swordsman, as a user of Conqueror's Haki. This confirmation came through Roronoa Zoro's battle against Saint Sommers. In this battle, Zoro got a flashback to his time with Mihawk, where the latter explained to him what it truly meant to wield Conqueror's Haki and how Conqueror's Haki made him the strongest swordsman in the world. Now that Mihawk is confirmed as a wielder of the Advanced Color of the Supreme King, he automatically becomes the strongest Yonko Commander we have seen in the story, perhaps even above the likes of Ben Beckman, which is quite exciting to see.
“Listen closely, Roronoa! All things are in flux. However, there is one thing that can resist all change. It is another kind of Haki, but one that can't be learned through discipline: Supreme King Haki. There is one thing that Supreme Kings share. Something unchanging. Remember this, the Color of the Supreme King is something so strong that the weak cannot remain standing in its presence. What truly fuels the Color of the Supreme King is one's sense of self!” — Mihawk explains Supreme King Haki, One Piece Chapter #1194
One Piece chapter 1194 confirmed Mihawk as the strongest Yonko Commander, especially when taking into account his accomplishments over the years. Mihawk holds the title of the world's strongest swordsman, but even more impressively, he is a rival to Yonko Red-Haired Shanks, who is arguably the strongest Emperor in the world of One Piece at this point in time.
Marco: He has terrific Haki, as always!
Shanks: You'll have to excuse me. I have trouble staying calm on an enemy ship. I'm not here to fight.
