CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered won’t make returning players start Geralt’s adventure all over again.
The Witcher 3 Remastered, which adds a host of visual and gameplay improvements to the acclaimed RPG, was officially unveiled at Gamescom ahead of its release.
With more than a decade’s worth of existing saves out there, however, players have unsurprisingly questioned what the upgrade means for their existing progress.
Addressing those concerns on September 1, CD Projekt Red confirmed that existing Witcher 3 saves will remain compatible with Remastered.
“We’ve seen your questions about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered! Good news: your current saves will work with the upgrade, so you can get back on the Path right where you left off,” the developer said.
The developer also confirmed that achievement progress made in existing versions of the game will carry over to the remaster.

There is one change returning players should be aware of, however. According to a newly published support page, skills and settings will be reset due to the changes introduced with Remastered, but these will be able to be reallocated right after booting the game.
