Dave Bautista is hitting the gym in preparation for the role of Kratos in the live-action God of War series, taking over from Ryan Hurst, who was recast earlier this year after suffering an injury on set.
In a new video showing off his progress, Bautista teased, "3rd week into weight training again. 2 more months to get where I need to be. Like ridin a bike!"
While he didn't outright say that he was spending the next two months bulking up for Kratos, he was officially cast two weeks ago, which lines up with the caption. So, we all know exactly why he's back at the gym. And that gives us a solid timeline.
Filming has paused for now, but Amazon can't delay production for too long or else they risk Atreus actor Callum Vinson aging out of the role. With that and the Instagram post in mind, it's safe to say that filming will continue once Bautista is ready.
He's already starting to look perfect for the role of Kratos, but don't expect him to put on an ungodly (or I guess, godly in this case) amount of weight given the gruelling preparation he underwent for M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin.
In 2024, on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Bautista said that he "overdid it," reaching a weight of 143 kg — heavier than he was during his professional wrestling career. A weight he described as "uncomfortable."
"I started slimming down because I just got really big," Bautista said. "I've sacrificed a lot of muscle, but I'm okay with it because I just feel more comfortable."
"Now that i'm older - fu**ing old - this has done a lot for me," he later said of his training. "I feel better now than I have in years."
