No Man’s Sky has expanded the scope of base-building with the Cosmos update, and we can now build an Orbital Base in the deep space. While the new base type still follows the same rules, there are few changes that are worth noting.
Let’s find out how to build your own base in the outer space.
The first step is to enter a star system on your ship and open the new Star Chart map. The map, compared to prior versions, will have far more details and point of interest. What you want to look for is a habitable asteroid. You can detect such asteroids from the Star Chart map directly.
Once you find such an asteroid, reach close to it. Once you’re close enough, you can then move out of your ship to land on the asteroid. First, you have to place your Deep Space Base Computer. The blueprint requires one each of the following three items: Reactor Core, Viral Heart, and Condensed Stellar Ice. You will require a Deep Space Base Computer for every Orbital Base that you establish in the space.
Complete the scan, and you can now use the asteroid as your Orbital Base. You can build a wide variety of structures based on the resources that you have. There’s plenty of freedom, although we can’t build our own freighter yet. You can also use your tools to remove the debris and discover more space to build your base.
If you want to have a second base (or even more), you’ll need to build more Deep Space Base Computer. This terminal works like the founding pillar of your orbital space base. As part of the Cosmos update, you can also claim a Space Station for yourself.
Doing so allows you to change its design and open an alliance to form a group with other players.
