Falcom seems to have struck gold with these Trails in the Sky remakes.
Last year's Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was almost immediately crowned the highest rated Trails title ever, but its top dog status has now been undone by its successor, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
The sequel, which launched a few weeks back, is the new highest rated Trails title ever, with the PS5 version commanding an incredibly impressive score of 91 on Metacritic.
To be fair, 2nd Chapter's been sitting on that score for a while, but I wanted to wait until it had more reviews to draw from. The score's now based on a respectable 19 critics, including the one and only Push Square.
But that's not all. A 91 also means that 2nd Chapter is, currently, the third highest rated video game of 2026 overall.
The only titles topping it are The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered (94 on PC) and Sektori (94 on Switch 2). However, the former only has 10 reviews, and the latter 9, so it's all a bit skewed.
In any case, Falcom will be over the moon with this reception. It's no wonder the developer is weighing up its options with regards to even more remakes (surely The Third is a lock).
