In the Naruto series, there is no clan as iconic or recognizable as the Uchiha Clan. The Uchiha clan has a dark history, and Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, gave us a look at it with Madara Uchiha and the Uchiha Clan Massacre by one of their own, Itachi Uchiha. Since the massacre of the clan, the Uchiha have dwindled in numbers, leaving only Sasuke Uchiha and his daughter, Sarada Uchiha, to continue their legacy.
However, while these two remain as the two final standing pillars of the clan in canon, Naruto X Boruto Storm Connections has now officially unveiled a new powerful member of the clan who had previously been sealed away due to her powers. This new member is Nanashi Uchiha, and she officially made her debut on August 20, 2026, with a brand-new reveal and backstory.
The Uchiha Clan has long been the fan-favorite clan of Naruto fans because of their captivating lore and powerful characters within their ranks. The first Uchiha we met was Sasuke Uchiha, and he became a pillar of the story, acting as Naruto's deuteragonist. Other iconic members of the Uchiha clan revealed in the Naruto series were Itachi Uchiha, Madara Uchiha, and Obito Uchiha. All of them were essential for the plot to move forward in major ways.
Sadly, because of the Uchiha Clan Massacre carried out by Itachi Uchiha, we were left with only a scant few Uchiha characters and a near-extinct bloodline. By the end of the Naruto Shippuden anime, the only Uchiha to remain standing was Sasuke. Because of that, it was exciting when the 2023 Naruto video game, Naruto X Boruto: Storm Connections, unveiled a brand-new member of the Uchiha Clan. This new addition is a character named Nanashi Uchiha. It’s always exciting to see the Uchiha clan expanded, even if through non-canon material. Nanashi Uchiha has an exciting backstory that explains why she is still alive despite the massacre of the Uchiha Clan. Nanashi Uchiha was alive during the Warring States Period, and due to her overwhelming powers, she was sealed away by the Senju and Sarutobi Clans to prevent her abilities from being used as a war weapon.
While she was sealed away, Nanashi Uchiha's story skipped a hundred years, and she was unsealed during the Boruto era. Nanashi was unsealed by Merz, and her hatred of the Shinobi world made her an easy target to exploit, turning her into a new major Uchiha antagonist. Because of her mistreatment, Nanashi harbored a lot of hatred, but deep down, she was never a truly evil character. Her shell was slowly cracked through Boruto Uzumaki's efforts. His determination to save Nanashi opened her eyes and has now made her into a great ally. Naruto x Boruto: Storm Connections finally made Nanashi Uchiha a playable character on August 20, 2026, and we were also given a new game release update. What's more exciting is that Nanashi is a free unlockable character that fans can acquire through story progression.
What usually makes the Uchiha and their clan members stand out is their overwhelming powers and abilities stemming from the Sharingan. In that sense, Nanashi Uchiha is no exception. She was treated most of her life as a weapon to be used, and that was primarily because of her special powers. To begin with, Nanashi is a child prodigy. Even at a young age, she’s already able to use Fire Release with great mastery. While she’s able to tap into the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, she can also make use of Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation, the peak of the Uchiha Fire Release shown by Madara during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
In the Naruto X Boruto: Storm Connections lore, Nanashi Uchiha was actually the 3rd Uchiha member to unlock the Mangekyo Sharingan. This power was previously only utilized by Madara Uchiha and his brother, Izuna. Because of her Mangekyo Sharingan, coupled with other Uchiha abilities, Nanashi Uchiha was simply an unstoppable force. With her Mangekyo Sharingan, she had two powerful abilities implanted into her eyes: Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, two of the most treasured abilities of the Uchiha Clan.
Unfortunately, she struggled with the eyestrain caused by this blinding power, but she kept impressing further with her own unique Genjutsu known as Yachihoko. Nanashi Uchiha showcased the powerful ability of Yachihoko in the Naruto X Boruto game. With Yachihoko, she is able to not only erase memories but also implant orders in her victims' brains. This gives her a broken mind control ability that makes her one of the most dangerous Uchiha characters overall. Among the non-canon Uchiha, she is definitely the one who has stood out the most.
