There are some games I follow which I have to find excuses to write about. Silver Palace is one such title.
While the gothic detective game did list “consoles” in its initial unveiling, it’s only today during Gamescom we’ve officially got confirmation of a PS5 release. That’s good because I gambled on an appointment in Cologne this week, and now my hands-on will make a lot more sense.
To be honest, this is your typical modern Chinese gacha game, with character swapping combat and sandbox exploration.
There is a detective undercurrent, and the new trailer reveals an unexpected multiplayer mode named House of Greed, which is giving it a bit more identity of its own.
I do think the Victorian setting is carrying this a lot, though – for those of you who play on mobile, there’s a game called Reverse 1999 which scratches a similar itch to this. But the production values here are on another planet.
Anyway, it’s good to have PS5 confirmation here – this is another console exclusive by the way, so Sony is just utterly dominating this space now. Of course whether these games are beginning to cannibalise each other or not is legitimate question to ask.
