A Plants vs Zombies fan artist has created the internet’s latest unlikely obsession after introducing Peashooter to a flirtatious new plant named PeaBlaze.
Peashooter and Sunflower have remained two of the franchise’s most recognizable characters since the original Plants vs Zombies established itself as one of gaming’s most unusual zombie games. Both returned in the 2025 remaster Plants vs Zombies: Replanted, but neither has received attention quite like this.
On August 26, fan artist LeafPaw shared a four-panel Plants vs Zombies comic captioned, “He got an upgrade.”

The comic begins with Peashooter watching another Peashooter kiss Sunflower before walking away dejected. He is then approached by a new female plant, who tells him, “He took your girl, what a shame,” before leaning in and asking, “Want a better one?”
The comic exploded across X, earning more than 25 million views, 175,000 likes, and 46,000 bookmarks within its first week.
LeafPaw later confirmed that the character is named PeaBlaze. The artist has also asked followers whether the comic should continue following its unexpected success.
PeaBlaze quickly inspired fan art across X, DeviantArt, and other platforms. One artist created a humanoid version of the character, while another X user claimed, “PeaBlaze got me play pvz again.”
