The popular - and always appreciated - seamless co-op mod has finally come to Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the only game of the trilogy to have spent years without it. Mod creator Yui, who's responsible for the seamless co-op mods for Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring and Armored Core has returned to release the mod's alpha version to the public.
Dark Souls 2 does, of course, support co-op by default. But, as with other FromSoftware-developed games, the process is a little convoluted and comes with a number of limitations that prevent players from being able to play with their friends with no interruptions.
Yui's mods solve that, making it possible to play the game alongside friends (up to five others, in this case) from start to finish in a single session. The mod skirts around many of the game's inherent limitations to do so, removing progression blockers and keeping all players' sessions in sync.
The mod can be downloaded from NexusMods or GitHub. It goes without saying that this alpha version is going to have a few issues, as Yui is using it to test the mod and fix bugs - so don't expect the experience to be quite as seamless as you're used to from her other mods.
Some potential problems include enemy de-sync when a player dies, including when facing bosses such as Velstadt, and Sinh. Certain interactions, such as opening/closing doors or picking up items, may not always be in-sync for all players too.
Yui's Patreon post has a full list of known issues, so it's worth having a look at that before you jump in. The good news is that multiple patches have already been released, so we may not be too far off from the mod's final version.
