CD Projekt Red outlines which Witcher 3 Remastered fixes are coming next, but there's still division about the changes

CD Projekt Red has let The Witcher 3 community know its work isn't done patching the newly-released Remastered edition of the game.

In a post on X, CDPR specified a few areas of the game that are still being looked at. These include "further performance improvements, particularly on PS5", "further visual adjustments", and "voiceover audio fixes on consoles". "We're aiming to address many of these in the next update," CDPR said. "We're also investigating other reported issues, so please keep sharing your reports through [this link]."

CDPR said it's also "working on bringing more mods across all platforms" together with mod.io; cross-platform mod support was added in the Remastered edition of the game. I haven't tested this feature yet but I'm intrigued to see what's available there.

These patching efforts follow a slightly bumpy arrival for the Remastered revamp of The Witcher 3. Not long after it was released last week, various technical issues were surfaced by the community, alongside more stylistic concerns that the game is too bright now - a complaint CDPR seems to have acknowledged by releasing a couple of lighting-related hotfixes. CDPR has not responded beyond this; I was told the company had no comment to make when I asked specifically about it last week.

And there still seems to be unrest in the community. Two other game-related areas CDPR said it was working on - Twitch Drops and Ukrainian localisation - seem to have particularly aggravated the audience. "Well I'm glad you're focused on Twitch drops and Ukrainian localisation while there are game breaking bugs everywhere," read one much-liked comment on X.

"Please bring back the next-gen version to PS5," read another. "Don't delete for preservation the next-gen version to the people that already owned [it]. For some of us, we prefer the next-gen version. Bring us the option back." You can, incidentally, roll back the game-version on PC without much trouble, but on console, the option isn't there.

The Remastered overhaul of The Witcher 3 significantly updates the game, redrawing textures and environments as well as updating animations and skills in the game. It's a huge undertaking - effectively a 3.0 release - and given that it arrives 11 years into the game's life, and for free, it's an extraordinarily generous thing for CDPR to do. However, it also raises minimum system requirements for the game in the process, putting more strain on older machines.

It's an effort to modernise the by-now legendary RPG ahead of a third and unprecedented expansion - for a single-player game so far from release - arriving next year, called Songs of the Past. And so far, the Remastered edition has not only brought players back in droves, but reinvigorated sales of the game as well.
