Fallout 76 gamers on consoles are gaining access to the game's Public Test Server for the first time. While Fallout 76 players on PC have had access to the Public Test Server since 2020, Xbox and PlayStation gamers haven't been able to say the same.
Originally launched in 2018, Fallout 76 is considerably different in 2026 compared to its early days. Players were unhappy with a number of things in Fallout 76 at launch, and Bethesda listened to its playerbase, which led to major improvements over the years. The Public Test Server has also played a role in ensuring that players have as smooth an experience as possible when changes and updates are made to the game, and now more players will be able to participate.
Fallout 76 has now announced that gamers on Xbox Series X/S systems, as well as the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, are now eligible to access the PTS, or Public Test Server. The update says that this inclusion should be a "big step" in helping the game to be a more comfortable experience for all console gamers going forward. Currently, the PTS is looking to ensure that the update is performing correctly regarding FPS and stability. Xbox and PlayStation gamers on all systems should be able to expect a targeted 60 FPS, 4K resolution, and VRR. However, players should also expect bugs, as a large part of the point of the PTS is to identify and fix issues ahead of Fallout 76 updates. Participants are encouraged to provide feedback to Bethesda.
Players on PlayStation and Xbox will need to follow separate steps in order to join in. Xbox players can access it through the XBOX Insider Hub. Users will simply need to open the app, navigate to "Previews," and then look for "Fallout 76 PTS." Simply hit the join button, and Xbox consoles should give the option to download it. PlayStation gamers, on the other hand, will need to have a Discord account and must join the official Bethesda Discord server and follow some steps on its #76-announcements channel. Once PlayStation gamers have assigned the appropriate roles to themselves, they can get a code for their game region. Once redeemed on PlayStation, the Fallout 76 Beta will be added to the console's game library, and can be installed as normal.

For the unfamiliar, the PTS does connect to a player's standard account, but only in one direction. When joining the PTS for the first time, a snapshot is made of the player's Fallout 76 character, or essentially a copy, which lets them utilize everything their character ordinarily has access to. PTS participants will also be able to access a unique PTS Locker that is typically stocked with items, weapons, or mods that the developers need feedback on. However, seasonal content and the paid Atomic Shop are disabled, and any progress made in the game, like new gear attained or levelling up, will not transfer back over to the standard version of the game.
In the standard game, players are currently looking towards the upcoming September 15 Fallout 76 update. In addition to improvements in performance for console players, the new update will also introduce The Slasher to the Beware the Blood Moon season. The story will play out over a few weeks, and completing the story will net players some new Power Armor and the Super Slasher weapon.
