Turn-Based RPGs You Can Play For Months

I know, there are a lot of shiny new games out there. I'm as excited as the next guy about the tidal wave of releases coming in Fall 2026, both big-budget titles and under-the-radar games with a ton of potential. That said, I also know that most wallets can't handle buying every game that comes out (mine included).

If you really want to get the most out of your next gaming purchase and make sure it's something you can play for months, then these next turn-based RPGs may be for you. There's a wide variety of styles and stories here, but the key point is that they're all long games, easily demanding over 100 hours for a playthrough and a lot more if you want to see everything they have to offer.

One playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 is already enough for many people. The lengthy three-act campaign can easily take upwards of 60 hours, and you don't even have to touch all the side content and character quests to hit that mark. Still, if you're trying to stretch this game over months, then a second playthrough is essential. The good news is, it won't feel like a second playthrough.

Between choosing a new race, class, and gender before the game even starts, you can already establish a completely different storyline than your first time through, especially if you choose one of the Origin characters rather than create your own. Regardless, a few different narrative choices in the first act can completely alter your playthrough, landing you with new companions, quests, and gear to work with. It really is astounding how varied playthroughs of Baldur's Gate 3 can be, and it's more than enough game to keep you occupied for a few months.

While oyu might be thinking that Persona 5 Royal technically features more content with a new semester and dungeon to complete—and you'd be right—it also saw a ton of QoL improvements, which included a drastic reduction in the amount of grinding you have to do. As such, even though it has more content, the original Persona 5 is going to consume more of your time overall.

In either case, completing the campaign will take some doing. These are long games by their nature, and even if you stick to the crit path and don't complete much side content, you're still looking at easily 80-100 hours of game time. Persona 5's year-long life-sim aspect pretty much prevents you from speeding through the game too quickly. The "grindy" side content isn't bad, either. It mostly involves venturing into Mementos and clearing floors of enemies, but because the combat is so satisfying and versatile, you can easily tack on another 20-30 hours here.
