Logitech just revealed some major upgrades to its Pro line of gaming peripherals in the form of the Pro X3 Superstrike, Pro X3 Lightspeed wireless headset, and Pro X2 Rapid keyboard. I’ve been testing these products out, and the quality and performance are truly a step up from past iterations. So much so that I can safely say that these peripherals are set to become my new go-to gear.
The gaming accessory market is as competitive as it’s ever been, but this level of competition is driving innovation at a rapid rate, and while there’s nothing groundbreaking about the new Logitech gear, each piece of kit is a marked improvement over its predecessor, something that isn’t always a given.
I have no qualms about stating that my current favorite gaming headset is the Astro A50 X. It’s a multi-platform beast with incredible battery life, stunning sound quality, and it’s truly comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
When I put the Pro X3 Lightspeed through its paces, I was pleasantly surprised by how close it is to the A50 X in every department, and in some cases, it’s even better. Firstly is the comfort, because what good is a gaming headset if it can’t be worn pain-free for longer than an hour? I’ve done some ridiculous tests of headset comfort over the years, including running a half marathon in the Alienware Pro Wireless, but I didn’t need to go to such extremes testing the Pro X3 Lightspeed, because Logitech has a strong history of putting comfort at the forefront, and it’s done the same again here.
Weighing in at 362g, the headset actually feels quite bulky in hand, but thanks to the perforated memory foam headrest, you barely notice it once it’s on. I always like to point out that I have a rather large head, too, so I can say that the Logitech Pro X3 Lightspeed, at its widest setting, is still incredibly comfortable and a secure fit.
As for the sound and microphone quality, again, Logitech has a history of being outstanding, and the Pro X3 Lightspeed is no different. Using 50mm PRO-G graphene drivers, this headset can handle sounds thrown at it from bassy lows to pitchy highs without any distortion whatsoever. It’s a continuation of the strong audio quality I’ve come to expect from Logitech and Astro products.
However, the quality of the 48KHz omnidirectional boom microphone is a noticeable step-up versus a lot of other headsets I’ve tested, especially in this mid-to-top tier range. Audio capture is smooth and detailed, and as someone who often finds themselves making loud, frantic callouts when gaming, the added clarity this microphone offers ensures my teammates aren’t dealing with poor-quality comms. While dedicated microphones will always win out, the Pro X3 Lightspeed comes incredibly close to this quality, which is quite an accomplishment.
Finally, I want to touch on the battery life, which is a very respectable 70 hours. There’s no obscene lighting in place to drain the battery resources, so the advertised 70 hours is pretty much spot on, if not a little underestimated, as I calculated a full-to-empty battery test at just shy of 80 hours under average use.
