PlayStation officially follows in Nintendo’s footsteps today as its first Lego console, a Lego PS1 that’s almost a 1:1 replica of the original console, has been released. It comes with a Lego Astro Bot as a free gift for a limited time, but thankfully, if you just want Astro, you don’t have to buy the PS1 to get him.
The Lego PS1 is available now through the Lego website if you’re an Insider. It’s worth signing up, even if you don’t plan on buying the set. It’s free to become an Insider, and not only do you get perks like early access to popular sets, but you start accruing points that can then be exchanged for other sets, some of which aren’t available to buy with money.
The Lego Pokemon Center is only available if you have 2,500 Insider points to spare.
PlayStation’s new Lego set is also available to buy through PlayStation Direct, and while adding it and Lego Astro to your cart will get you the latter for free - the discount will be applied at checkout - the Astro Bot set is also available to buy separately.
That’s big news for anyone who has seen, or even heard about, what might be Astro Bot’s one and only Lego set, since it means you won’t be forced into buying a $180 set just to get your hands on it. The 276-piece Astro is only $24.99, stands at eight inches tall, and is fully posable.
This is an incredibly rare gesture from Lego. I’ve been covering its sets and various free gifts for years, and I can’t think of a time when one of its free gifts has been made available to buy without having to buy the more expensive set it's paired with. Even Pokemon wasn’t given that privilege, as the Kanto Badge set was only available if you bought the $650 Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise set.
Lego has released the list of bricks you need to make the badges alongside the instructions, but the set was never sold separately.
If you want the Astro Bot set and you’re also on the lookout for some new Lego sets, but not necessarily the PS1, it turns out you don’t need to buy the console to get it through the Lego store either. Astro is being given away with all purchases over $150 from now until October 7, 2026. After that, it will be removed and potentially gone forever, especially if the set sells out at PlayStation Direct, which I imagine will happen pretty quickly.
