For the most part, Marvel’s Wolverine is a linear action game that doesn’t ask the player to deviate too much from the main path and all of its gory combat.
There are some things that you’ll need to keep an eye out for as you play through the game, though, including Nightmare Doors that are tied to Logan’s memory. Here's what you need to know.
Early on in Wolverine’s campaign, Nathaniel Essex will attempt to peer into Logan’s mind to see his memories. This unlocks the Nightmare Doors, which can be found throughout the campaign and have specific trials attached to them that you’ll need to beat. They’re basically challenge rooms and will award you AP that is used to unlock and equip Augmentations.
Nightmare Doors are tied to Logan’s lost memories, and beating each one will let him remember a piece of his storied past. They’re not too difficult to track down, either, as purple tree-like roots will sprout up and guide you to the titular doors. Once you go through one, you’ll end up in the Nightmare Cabin and be able to take on its trial, replay missions, and reflect on memories.
Each time you complete a Nightmare Door, you’ll unlock a new memory in the cabin for Logan to reminisce on, giving you more background into his character and past, which are represented through wood carvings. Depending on which medal grade you got for the challenge, the colour of the memory will change, quickly letting you know whether you need to replay the challenge to get a higher score.
As mentioned above, the first Nightmare Door is part of the game’s story and can’t be missed. You will need to beat it in 55 seconds to get the Adamantium medal, however.
Once you’ve found and completed all of the Nightmare Doors in Marvel’s Wolverine, you’ll unlock one final memory that almost functions as the story’s epilogue. Beyond just wanting to collect everything, this should serve as the main reason for going after the Nightmare Doors in the first place, to make sure you see the entirety of Logan’s story. The very first Nightmare Door you can find “in the wild” is located in The One Who Got Away. As you chase Jean Grey through the forest area, you’ll reach a more open section. This door is pretty hard to miss, as the purple roots will directly guide you to the door on the left and Logan will even comment on it.
