Danganronpa 2x2 stands to reinvent one of the most ambitious visual novel sequels that ever hit gaming. When it originally released on the PlayStation Vita in English, it was actually already a remake of the PSP version: Super Danganronpa 2: Sayonara Zetsubou Gakuen. So, it isn’t a surprise that there have been some ‘enhancements’ made in the third run-through of this set of “Ultimate” talents trapped in a killing game.
Now with a major visual overhaul, it could be expected that some modern horsepower would be required to run these new aspects. And now, thanks to eagle-eyed Resetera user Jawmuncher, we know exactly what those enhancements will be, what we can expect from each system, and what is recommended to deliver it all.
For Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, Danganronpa 2x2 will have a non-4K presentation with a variable 30-60 frame rate. On both PS5 and Xbox Series X, we get a 4K presentation with a locked 60fps frame rate, and on PC it can scale between 720p to 4K, with a frame rate cap of 60fps.
Looking a bit deeper on the website where this information was shared by Spike Chunsoft, the studio behind the entire Danganronpa series, we also find the PC recommended specs, which is where things get a little bit troubling.
The minimum for system memory is particularly notable, with 8 GB RAM suggested and a staggering 32 GB RAM recommended. Whether or not this is reflective of the demand that this game will require to play will be revealed sooner rather than later when the game releases on January 14, 2027, for all the previously mentioned platforms.
2x2's improvements can be seen in the most recent trailer, with sharper character models and smoother animations as the main visual overhaul. Additionally, there are effects that result in a more dynamic presentation when compared to the original handheld release. Yet, none of this accounts for the frankly ridiculous recommended requirements for the PC version.
