Danganronpa 2×2 players who preordered the Nintendo Switch 2 version just found out their physical copy won’t actually hold the game.
The visual novel had already pushed its full release into early 2027 to dodge GTA 6, and maybe because its creator really just wants to spend the later half of the year playing Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game.
Now, it’s making headlines again for a stumble in the pre-order process.
Spike Chunsoft confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Danganronpa 2×2 will now ship as a game-key card in every region, including North America and Europe, instead of the full game card originally planned.
The publisher called it a decision that “was not taken lightly” and said it has no further details to share.
Important update regarding Danganronpa 2×2 for Nintendo Switch 2For unavoidable reasons, Danganronpa 2×2 for Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on game-key card in all regions. The Shopify US Store will be cancelling and refunding all orders placed for the Nintendo Switch 2… pic.twitter.com/httq7gYJUX
Pre-orders placed directly through Spike Chunsoft’s US store for the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package got cancelled outright, with refund notices going out by email. That said, UK and EU customers who bought through the official store keep their orders intact, just with the key card swapped in, and anyone who preordered elsewhere is in the same boat.
Importantly, the Switch 2 version is the only one affected. Danganronpa 2×2 still ships on a full disc for PS5 and a proper cartridge for the original Switch, so this is strictly a Switch 2 problem. Game-key cards look identical to real cartridges, but they hold no actual game data.
