Double Fine’s critically-acclaimed Xbox and PC adventure, Keeper, has been released for PlayStation 5.
The PS5 version was announced during a State of Play live stream on Thursday, and follows Double Fine’s exit from Microsoft and return to being an independent developer.
“Keeper is a story told without words,” said developer Double Fine. “It’s a third-person atmospheric adventure set in a post-human world, after our time in the sun has long since passed.
“After eons of lying dormant, the Lighthouse unexpectedly moves. It shudders and shakes, and tumbles to the ground, its ancient masonry cracking apart. But then something even stranger occurs… its broken pieces of rubble reassemble, and it stands up once more – but now on newly formed legs. It has awakened.
“As the Lighthouse stumbles clumsily and learns to walk, it finds itself taken with a mysterious sense of purpose and, finding its footing, sets off toward the center of the island, toward the mountain.”
Alongside South of Midnight creators Compulsion, Double Fine was recently allowed to return to independence by its former owner Microsoft, with both companies retaining their IPs and game catalogs, and receiving investment to get them started.
Speaking to Kinda Funny Games in a recent interview, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer confirmed that all of Double Fine’s previous game rights have returned to the studio, and that future sales of such games will help support the company’s future.
“The IP came back to us, and we’ve got the publishing rights back for our games. It still says Microsoft on some of them [because] it just takes a while to process. When people buy our games, it supports the studio.
