Every Mighty Morphin Power Ranger's Zord, Ranked By Power

Every Mighty Morphin Power Ranger's Zord, Ranked By Power

Without Zords, every episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers would be forced to end 10 minutes early if its colorful heroes didn't have their incredible giant mechs to pilot against the latest monster-of-the-week. The Zords were always one of the most appealing parts of MMPR — and its merchandise — so it's no surprise that there are so many of them squeezed into its three-season run.

Although they are designed to melee with monsters, how would the Mighty Morphin Rangers' Zords fare when pitted against each other? Typically, each new generation of Zords is said to be more powerful than the last, but that isn't always the case. The only way to find out is to rank all 24 individual Zords belonging to the MMPR Rangers from least to most powerful. To qualify, the Zord has to be piloted by one of the Power Rangers, so the likes of the autonomous Tor the Shuttlezord and Lord Zedd's Serpentera do not count.

As anyone who has ever owned the toys knows, the Pterodactyl Dinozord was easily the flimsiest of the Mighty Morphin Rangers' original lineup of Zords. And, as the Dinozords are canonically the weakest generation of MMPR Zords, that means it has the unfortunate honor of bringing up the bottom of the ranking. Still, major props to it for living inside an active volcano.

While Ninjor claims that the Ninjazords are more powerful than the Rangers' previous Zords, he may be stretching the truth a little there. Case in point, the Ninja Cranezord — the Pink Ranger's final personal Zord in the series — might be quick and agile, but it lacks any real firepower. Still, at least it's an integral component of the Ninja Megazord, unlike its predecessors, which were basically just accessories.

Of the Pink Ranger's three avian-themed Zords, the Firebird Thunderzord is easily the most powerful. It may be functionally similar to both the Pterodactyl and the Crane, but its ace in the hole is its capacity to produce energy tornadoes, an attack boost that neither its predecessor nor its successor possess. No matter what that huckster Ninjor might try and claim.

The Mastodon is a challenge to rank, as its sheer size and bulk make it a formidable Zord, and yet its relative lack of mobility holds it back from coming any higher. In addition to its sturdiness, though, the Mastodon Zord does also have its subzero blasts going for it, a unique ability among Zords, which it shoots from its trunk to freeze its enemies.

As the Yellow Rangers' first Zord, the Sabertooth Tiger Dinozord is one of the most beloved of all the MMPR Zords. While it has a fantastic design, however, it's not exactly one of the most powerful. Still, it has numerous elements that give it a boost over the Pterodactyl and the Mastodon. Namely, its speed, agility, ferocious fangs, and the laser it shoots out of its tail.

Is the Griffin Thunderzord really superior to the Sabertooth Tiger? It depends on how you look at it. In terms of raw power, the answer is yes.
