This asymmetrical horror game puts you in the shoes of civilians trying to survive or, if luck has decided to be cruel, the big guy himself. There is a large amount to learn beneath all the screaming, and your first few matches can feel like being dropped into a slasher movie with absolutely no script.
Thankfully, a little knowledge goes a long way. Before you start making terrible life choices, here are some beginner tips to help you get oriented and make the most of every match. Let's get into it!
If you are playing as a civilian, escaping as quickly as possible is not always the best strategy. Unlike Dead by Daylight, simply finding an exit and leaving is not the entire point of a match. There are items to find, objectives to complete, other civilians to help escape, and even opportunities to hurt Michael.
Taking some time to explore can make you much more useful to the rest of the survivors. You may also find weapons and other items that give you a better chance of surviving when Michael inevitably finds you. Of course, if Michael is breathing down your neck, getting out alive is still a perfectly reasonable priority. Just do not assume that immediately heading for the exit is always the optimal play.
Not every civilian plays the same way. Each character has different stats and perks, so experimenting with different civilians is one of the best ways to figure out which playstyle works for you.
Some characters are better suited to certain situations than others, and a civilian who feels fantastic in one match might not be the best fit for how you like to play. It is worth trying several of them before settling on a favorite.
