Update [Sun 30th Aug 2026, 7:45pm]: Yesterday I reported that PS Direct was practically the only place left you could buy a PS5 Pro in the US.
Now the system is no longer available on Sony’s direct-to-consumer retail outlet either.
That means unless you’re willing to pay a massive premium, the console is completely sold out in the US.
I’ll contact Sony to find out when it’s expecting new shipments.
Original Story: Sony’s supercharged PS5 Pro hardware model is selling out in the US as GTA 6 fever takes hold – despite an ongoing blackout protest taking place against PlayStation hardware.
Fans have mobilised to keep their consoles unplugged indefinitely, but such is the demand for the PS5’s most powerful model that third-party sellers are charging as much as $1,300 for the device on Amazon. That’s a huge mark-up on its $900 MSRP.
Stores like Best Buy and Target are also out of stock, although the former is flogging “open box” units just below MSRP.
You can also still get a brand new model through PS Direct, with no mark-up or hidden expenses.
