DIY PC build uses wood, copper and a blowtorch to make powerful gaming rig

A hobbyist has created a custom gaming rig with wood and copper, even repurposing an old blowtorch as part of its cooling system to create a fully functioning PC that looks straight out of a steampunk playbook.

The custom build’s creator showed off their creation on September 13, combining high-end gaming hardware with a handmade wooden case, exposed copper piping, and some decidedly unconventional parts.

While much of the build is wood and copper-based, core components are more traditional. Housed inside is a high-end gaming setup featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC graphics card.

It’s the cooling system that makes the build stand out, though. Alongside its copper tubing, the creator repurposed an old Primus blowtorch as the liquid cooling reservoir, fitting it with a sight gauge to show the coolant level.

The PC also packs 32GB of DDR5 RAM, a Gigabyte B650M Aorus Elite WiFi motherboard, and custom cables made using a Corsair 850W SFX power supply.

The whole thing sits inside a wooden case the builder made themselves and weighs close to 44 lbs.

Several users compared the finished PC to an espresso machine or steampunk contraption, which, while it might look the part of a machine you’d find in a coffee shop, sadly can’t dispense caffeine.

One commenter asked whether the copper had been treated to preserve its current appearance or would be allowed to age naturally. In this instance, the creator opted to go with the latter, explaining, “[I’m] just going to let it tarnish over time; I quite like the look.”
