Marvel’s Wolverine Explains Divisive Regenerating Suits

Marvel’s Wolverine Explains Divisive Regenerating Suits

Wolverine’s controversial regenerating suits are actually explained in-game, and I'm betting that you can already guess the canon reason that's given.

If you’ve been following Marvel’s Wolverine in the past few months, you no doubt know that it’s found itself in a surprising amount of hot water. Easily one of the biggest points of contention is regarding Wolverine’s healing factor, which not only rebuilds his skin but also causes whatever suit he’s wearing to regenerate as well.

Insomniac Games has already given a real-world reason for the regenerating suits, noting that it didn’t want Logan to run around wearing “shredded rags” the whole game. As it turns out, though, the regenerating suits are also cemented as a canon part of Marvel’s Wolverine during an easily missable conversation early on in the story.

Early on in Marvel’s Wolverine, Logan is gifted the Insomniac original Battle Reborn suit by Walter, who asks him to find crates containing the suit materials to help him build it. Beyond serving as a way of introducing one of the game’s main collectibles and explaining why suits aren’t just instantly unlocked, it also answers everyone’s burning question about suit regeneration.

Walter tells Logan that the material crates he’s tracking down actually come from Trask and contain suit materials with nano-tech. That’s right, Marvel’s favourite excuse for instant suit-ups and self-repairing costumes has found its way into Insomniac’s universe, and it’s the in-universe reason why Logan’s outfits repair alongside him.

In my time with Wolverine, I actually found the suit regeneration to be pretty well done. Most damage will linger after battles, and doesn’t just instantly disappear as everyone feared.

Since it’s just one line from Walter that’s easily missed or ignored as you roam around his lab, the nano-tech clearly isn’t a major part of the game’s story or anything, but it does give anyone who’s really bothered by it a bit of an explanation. Of course, you then have to imagine that every single costume in the game has nano-tech, but it’s still better than nothing.
