A social media account dedicated to showcasing the absolute worst of the Pokemon TCG scene has had no shortage of videos to share during the recent 30th Anniversary release.
PokeStreetz is a Twitter account that shares videos of buyers - and, most likely, scalpers - embarrassing themselves as they fight over cards and sets. As we can see in many of these videos, many would-be buyers are turning violent, getting into scraps with each other as they often try to circumvent a store's limit on how many packs a customer can purchase.
PokeStreetz has shared multiple videos of fights appearing to break out at stores that stock the Pokemon TCG 30th Anniversary sets. In many instances, customers can be seen scrambling to get as many cards as possible into their carts, which is how these fights start.
However, in other videos, we can see hostility in the line to get into stores, long before they actually open. In one video, we see customers pushing each other around by the door. In another, a knife is allegedly pulled in a confrontation at 2am.
As many of us are all too aware, this is hardly a new phenomenon. In fact, a viral video from last month shows one scalper appearing to punch someone for recording them exceeding the purchase limit on another Pokemon TCG release. It's claimed that a 4-year-old girl was injured during the altercation.
The only silver lining is that, apparently, scalpers aren't making as much of a killing as they hoped from this latest launch. It seems that there was, for the most part, enough stock to go around, and hopefully, most stores managed to maintain their purchase limit. Fingers crossed, a few of these weirdos who ruined the hobby for actual fans lost out big time and will think twice before decking someone in a Target again.
