Normally, when players are diving into an open world game, they want to spend a good amount of time in it. They want to explore the world, speak to all the NPCs, do all the quests, find all the collectibles, the list goes on — simply put, they want to invest a good number of hours in the game.
There are some games you can easily clock hundreds of hours just soaking up everything the game has to offer, but there are even fewer (yet richer) games that you can spend over 1000 hours on.
These are games where you'll become so hyper-invested that you'll easily log 1000 hours (and in some cases, 1000 hours and counting) before you'll even notice. There is that much to do, that much to see, that much to experience — if it ever even ends.
For all you know, one of these games just might pass the 2000-hour mark in your library.
While Mass Effect isn't technically a pure open world (that would actually be Andromeda), I would actually beg to differ — you have a lot of flexibility in how you approach missions, and the exploration itself is massive with the countless galaxies you can adventure to. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition puts the whole trilogy in a single title, which makes carrying your save file over easier, which makes the world feel all the more open. It's an honorary open world.
With that in mind, you can easily spend a hundred hours or so in a single playthrough if you go through a single game, this isn't even considering if you take your Shepard into the next entry and spend another couple hundred hours there. I think I spent a hundred hours going through and mining the planets in Mass Effect 2 alone.
So, if you were to then do a single repeat playthrough, making different decisions and choosing different romance options, you basically double that time. Keep in mind, this is assuming that you're playing through the game semi-thoroughly. If you were to actually go through with a fine-toothed comb, trying to see every outcome and option, you're going to be in these games for over 1000 hours with no problem.
