Town Gratitude in Graveyard Keeper 2 is depicted by a golden thumbs-up shown at the top of the screen. Gratitude is required when performing sermons in church, with the lower value between Gratitude and the church's rating determining the success of sermons. Even if you have the best church, it will count for nothing with 0 Gratitude and result in no Faith gained. With Faith being hugely important in Graveyard Keeper 2, gaining Gratitude each week is a must.
Initially, maximum Gratitude is capped at 10, and players may be confused about how they can increase their max Gratitude, especially inside the demo where it's impossible. This is because you have to advance through the story past the first battle and reach the port area. Upon doing so, the maximum Gratitude will be raised to 20, allowing for better sermons.
At just 10 Town Gratitude, sermons are fairly limited, and players won't be able to gain enough Faith. Thankfully, by following the main story, you'll soon have a maximum of 20 Town Gratitude.
The big moment is winning the first battle that reopens the port. To do so, players will need enough coin to pay mercenaries, and they will also want to prepare a few fortifications in the barracks that can then be deployed in battle. It also helps to make some health and damage potions in the lab.
However, there are a number of small quests to complete first for Herbert in particular, such as improving your graveyard rating.
Town Gratitude can certainly be increased further than 20, as some prayers require 100 or more. However, after winning all the battles on this side of the river and successfully holding an election after lots and lots of questing, I've yet to see it go up, which has been rather disappointing, especially as there's an NPC asking for 100 Faith.

Thankfully, there are many ways to gain Town Gratitude in Graveyard Keeper 2, and if players are helping the settlement in one way or another, there's a good chance of being rewarded with Gratitude.
