A new age rating for Grand Theft Auto 6 has just been discovered online, and on the surface it hints that official GTA 6 news could be on the way. After some digging and investigating, though, I've discovered that something is seriously amiss.
If there's one game series known for portraying adult themes, it's Grand Theft Auto. We all know about the rumors - and subsequent testing - of various services you could use way back in the game's history, and as visual fidelity and the sheer size of the world increase, you would imagine the range of themes on show will follow suit.
Knowing the GTA 6 age rating helps in a few ways: firstly, it's good to know who this game is intended for, and secondly, it gives us a little hint on what to expect when the game launches. The open-world game now has an official age rating, so we've dug a bit deeper to see what that actually entails.
GTA 6 has received a rating of M for Mature in North America, and an 18 rating in the UK. Age ratings may vary by region, but this generally prohibits anyone under the age of 17 from playing GTA 6 in the USA and anyone under the age of 18 in the UK.
Specific details of the age rating were briefly posted by PEGI before being pulled from its website. Take these with a grain of salt, as they aren't official just yet, but the descriptions included such things as dismemberment, decapitation, and GTA 6 being "bloody with a high degree of realism."
Sex also plays a large part in any Grand Theft Auto game, if you didn't know already. The PEGI rating describes "nudity, scenes of intercourse, and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes." Drug use is also mentioned.
The short answer for this is a resolute no. The longer answer for this is also no, but with extra steps. GTA 6 is heavy with adult themes, and the combination of drugs, sex, and violence makes it unsuitable for anyone below the ages on the ratings.
