Infinity Ward has responded after Call of Duty legend FormaL was banned from the Modern Warfare 4 beta when flagged by the game’s anti-cheat.
The Modern Warfare 4 beta was the community’s first chance to test out this year’s CoD ahead of the October release. It allowed players to try a small selection of guns and maps and to provide feedback on the new features and time-to-kill.
It was also a prime opportunity for the devs to test the anti-cheat system, which was in full effect. But they had to respond when CoD world champion Matthew “FormaL” Piper was suddenly banned live on stream.
FormaL was racking up kills with the Oris 8.6 Marksman Rifle, which emerged as one of the meta guns during the beta. He dropped multiple enemies in quick succession before being kicked from the lobby and receiving a message that read: “Account permanently banned.”
It was entirely clear from the clip why he had been banned, but the ‘Call of Duty CM’ X account was quick to respond and clarify the situation.

“We wanted to follow up on what happened after we quickly reverted his ban and spent some time investigating this situation,” the reply read. “RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems flagged this account in Beta due to a unique overlap between separate detections.”
They didn’t explain what these detections were, or whether or not he had been reported by other players in the lobby. However, they confirmed the issue has now been resolved.
