Square Enix has announced a full-on 3D remake of Romancing SaGa 3, titled Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United.
Going by the above trailer and the associated press release, this is set to be a brilliant revival. It retains everything that made the 1995 original unique, while also bolstering the experience with modern design.
The game stands out from other JRPGs by offering an impressive degree of player freedom. At the start of the adventure, you choose your protagonist from a roster of eight distinct characters, each of whom have their own allegiances and goals.
Then, as you're playing through the game, you get to make key decisions that determine available party members and the story's overall direction. Romancing SaGa 3 was an ambitious undertaking back in its day, and Destinies United will want to show just how well it holds up over 30 years later.
There's just one problem: the release date. The remake launches for PS5 on the 16th February 2027 — which puts it bang in the middle of a stupidly busy schedule.

Dropping on the same day as God of War Laufey and just two days before fellow RPG remake Persona 4 Revival is rough. Destinies United is going to need a lot of help from strong first impressions and reviews to avoid being completely buried.
