Over the last few months, the Naruto franchise has received quite a lot of exciting updates from both Shueisha as well as the author Masashi Kishimoto himself. On September 29, 2026, perhaps the most significant update was delivered. On the official Naruto website, naruto-official.com, it was revealed that a new Naruto anime is on the way. The announcement for it will be made at New York Comic Con 2026 on October 10, 2026, which is also Naruto Uzumaki's birthday.
There are quite a few details about this anime series that we already know, and it is surely going to be a delight for the fans of the Naruto series, especially as it paves the way for a full comeback of this franchise in a grand manner in 2027.
New York Comic Con 2026, held on October 10, is going to be significant for the Naruto series. The series is getting its own panel, and it is going to make quite a lot of exciting new announcements regarding the future of the anime, a new movie, the live-action movie, as well as the TCG card game. The vast majority of these developments are exciting already.
On September 29, 2026, Shueisha, as well as the official Naruto website, announced that a new anime for the series was coming. The basis of this anime is set on the four anniversary episodes that were promised to us long ago in 2023 to mark the 20th anniversary of the anime series. However, these episodes were indefinitely postponed back then. Now, over three years later, we have more information pertaining to these episodes, and it appears that they have now been turned into a full-fledged anime series. The official announcement for this anime will be made on October 10, 2026, which is also Naruto Uzumaki's birthday. We also know that this new anime series is going to be focused on Team 7, which includes Kakashi Hatake.
The original Naruto anime ended in March 2017, and since then, this franchise has not enjoyed any new releases. While this has been disappointing, the Boruto series certainly made up for it in some ways. But, this sequel series was largely divisive, and not all fans enjoyed it equally. At the same time, the popularity of this series was never going to reach the same heights as Naruto, which is why, eventually, the anime was taken off the air. The manga, although still ongoing, isn't as popular either. Naturally, the only solution for Studio Pierrot was to bring back the Naruto anime, which is what they are now doing, as has been officially confirmed by the franchise itself.
There is a lot of information already out about the upcoming new Naruto anime series. For starters, this new anime series acts as a sequel to the original Naruto anime that aired in 2003. In other words, it is set before Naruto Shippuden but after the original Naruto anime, which makes it a sequel to the original story before the timeskip. It is said that Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno will be central to this new anime, and Kakashi Hatake will play an important role as well. Naruto Uzumaki was said to have been made the captain of Team 7 during the original 4-episode run, but given that these new episodes are now being teased as their own anime series, it is likely that the plot has been significantly altered and expanded upon drastically. To that end, we are sure that there are going to be new, never-before-seen developments in the story, which include exciting power-ups and upgrades for our main characters.
It is unclear as to how many episodes this new anime will run for. If the episode count is the same as it was originally revealed to be, then it doesn't qualify as a full-fledged anime with just 4 episodes. Given that it is being advertised as a brand-new anime revival for the Naruto franchise, it is highly likely to have more than just 4 episodes, which would then also explain the delay behind the production. In the upcoming few weeks, we will have more information pertaining to this new Naruto anime revival that acts as a sequel to the original story of Naruto Uzumaki.
