To the delight of all hoping to increase the challenge while going for that Platinum, Onimusha: Way of the Sword allows you to tackle a new difficulty via its New Game Plus.
But is that all the new mode offers? And more importantly, what carries over? To make sure you are ready, here’s a full overview of how New Game Plus works in Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
Available after finishing the game for the first time, Onimusha: Way of the Sword‘s New Game Plus can be accessed by starting a new playthrough on Carnage Mode (its Hard difficulty). Once you begin, you will retain the following from your completed save. Note that this does not mean features (such as Haori Pouch switching) will be available before being unlocked during the story.
As expected, all side content progression will be reset after starting a new playthrough, as will all of your Clothing, Weapon, and Gauntlet levels. Your Red Soul stock will also be lost, so make sure to spend it all before diving in. Here are a few other items/features that won’t carry over to NG+:
Unfortunately for all hoping to up the stakes while in their first playthrough, Way of the Sword‘s difficulty settings only allow you to pick your path at the start and switch between its Action and Story Modes while at any Spirit Mirror. Carnage mode is the only exception to the rule and won’t allow you to scale back after starting.
If you want to add a little more danger to your first run, however, limiting yourself to not using any type of item can make every boss a challenge, while many long-time fans recommend removing enemy health and stamina bars to get that old-school feel. On the other hand, enabling Action Prompts in Settings can be a huge help for those struggling, especially when facing larger numbers of enemies or the latter bosses in Carnage or Action.
