During the State of Play Japan, Bandai Namco announced Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero's Eternal Legacy, a full-fledged expansion for Digimon Story Time Stranger. Unlike the other DLCs that were more like hallway simulators and only added a handful of new Digimon, A Hero's Eternal Legacy is being considered practically a sequel to the base game, featuring a new storyline, Digimon, and even a brand-new protagonist.
Digimon Story Time Stranger was released in 2025 and, to date, has received three DLCs called Additional Digimon & Episode Pack. The first was Alternate Dimension, the second GAKU-RAN, and the third was named Anti-ParadoX. All DLCs featured a minor new storyline, but what players wanted were the new digivolution paths for Mega Digimon. Still, they were a tad underwhelming, with both products holding a Mostly Negative review on Steam.
Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero's Eternal Legacy seems to want to leave the bad aftertaste of the first DLCs behind, because this one is pretty much functioning as a sequel to the base game. The expansion takes place three years after the battle between the Agents and the Olympos XII, introducing a new protagonist as well as 50 new Digimon and a sprawling open world to explore.
From the trailer, it is possible to see that the protagonist interacts with the world more than in the base Time Stranger, using some Digimon to get a burst of air and ascend to the skies. Mounts return, and this time they seem to be much more useful than just flair. An important detail for story buffs is that near the end, BloomLordmon appears, who, although not a Royal Knight (at least in past works), comments on the return of the World Tree.
For those unfamiliar, Digimon lore states that there are several Digital Worlds out there. Digimon Story Time Stranger takes place in Iliad, which makes many references to Greek mythology. Initially, however, there was only one Digital World, governed by a central computer called Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil is, curiously, the world tree mentioned by BloomLordmon, suggesting that the Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero's Eternal Legacy expansion will take place in a new digital world rather than Iliad.
The appearance of the other admins in the main story of Digimon Story Time Stranger comes into play, as well as an easter egg at the end if you complete all the game's sidequests, which I will avoid mentioning to keep things spoiler-free. So I imagine this transition between Digital Worlds will be seamless and fit like a glove into the context, without straying too far from the original game's plot.
