Officially introduced at the end of One Piece Chapter 1179 on April 5, 2026, Imu's Akuma no Mi, or The Devil’s Fruit, is a dangerously powerful ability that has made him the King of the entire world. Its powers have been extensively displayed throughout the climax of the Elbaf arc as Imu has clashed against various powerful fighters one after another.
While the powers of the Akuma no Mi are absolute and strong enough to dominate even against the likes of Nidhoggr and the Sun God Nika, Eiichiro Oda has crafted a unique counter to some of its abilities. This counter is the Hito Hito no Mi, which is wielded by the Doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, Chopper.
Nerona Imu's Akuma no Mi was unveiled to us on April 5, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue #19 with the release of One Piece chapter 1179. However, its powers had already been showcased to us long before its official debut. This is because Nerona Imu first appeared in Elbaf through Gunko at the end of chapter 1149. There, Imu declared that he would be taking over Elbaf, and to do that, he employed a powerful technique called Domi Reversi. Domi Reversi is one of the two main powers of Nerona Imu's Akuma no Mi. The power of granting powers to others through a Covenant certainly comes in handy when one wants to enter a contract with Imu. However, the King of the World can also forcibly turn others into demonic slaves using a power known as Domi Reversi. Essentially, this power sees Imu inject the body of his targets with the dark energy called Maki that he manipulates, and then turn them into immortal demonic beings at the cost of a certain amount of lifespan. Those inflicted with this demonic power gain certain demonic features like black wings, giant horns, and demonic teeth. Above all, their strength is increased drastically. In short, Imu's powers turn others into demons, and this is one of the biggest reasons why he was able to become the King of the World and dominate Joy Boy over 800 years ago.
