Despite being something that a lot of fans begged Rockstar for, Grand Theft Auto 6’s $400 equivalent to a collector’s edition is still in stock everywhere after a whole day.
Ever since the devastating news that GTA 6 wouldn’t be getting a physical edition was dropped on the world, fans have wondered whether Rockstar would bother releasing a collector’s edition. It seemed like a no-brainer before the digital situation was confirmed, but was completely up in the air once we knew that the physical release would be little more than a paperweight.
Yesterday, a bit of hope cropped up for fans when dataminers discovered listings for a bunch of unannounced products on the Rockstar Store, including one that seemed like it might be a collector’s edition, which was later confirmed to be the case. You’d think the collector’s edition would be an instant hit after so much begging, but that’s clearly not the case.
Considering GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of all time, pretty much everything related to it that Rockstar has put up for sale has been snagged incredibly quickly. From the limited-edition DualSense controllers to the collector’s vinyl for the game’s album that released last week, you’ve really had to have your eye on the ball to pick everything up.
That definitely isn’t the case for the collector’s edition, though. As soon as it was officially revealed and confirmed not to include the game, fans made it clear that the $400 price point and complete lack of a copy of the game (digital or otherwise) wasn’t good enough. The surprisingly brutal comments under Rockstar’s post make it clear that this is a step too far for most fans.
With that in mind, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that, even after being up for sale for a whole 24 hours, the GTA 6 collector’s edition box is still in stock. Both the US and UK versions of the Rockstar Store still have the Vice City Collection available to pre-order, and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change any time soon.
At the very least, it does mean that scalpers aren’t going to have a big day with the collector’s edition, as it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be hard to find.
While the $400 price point was always going to make the collector’s edition a very hard sell for most people, it’s still surprising to see, considering just how massive GTA 6 is and how many incredibly dedicated fans there are. You’d think that would be enough for it to fly off the shelves, but that clearly isn’t the case.
