Hello Games released a massive new update for No Man's Sky, bringing the largest changes to the game's space environment it has seen in 10 years. It has been a wild ride for No Man's Sky over these past 10 years, originally launching all the way back on August 9, 2016, with a level of hype that proved to be too much for the game initially.
However, the journey of No Man's Sky has been one of redemption as Hello Games continued to work on the game, not only fixing things but adding substantial amounts of content through consistent large-scale updates. No Man's Sky has seen numerous evolutions over the past 10 years as Hello Games has added a ton of content from co-op play, ship building, a visual overhaul and new biomes, settlement features, player factions, and more features that are just too much to list out here. Needless to say, the continued effort and ambitions of Hello Games has helped put No Man's Sky back in the spotlight and given it a major redemption arc.
The latest update, which Hello Games previously teased as Cosmos, has finally arrived and may be one of the more ambitious updates the game has seen. To mark the 10th anniversary, Hello Games has overhauled space itself in No Man's Sky to help make it feel more alive. Part of that comes from the ability to become a director of a Space Station, which then allows the player to style, expand, and decorate it as they wish.
From there, Alliances can be built and founded, allowing players to work together in a guild-style group that supports exploration and base building. Players can create custom names and banners as the alliance expands outward. There's even a leaderboard system that displays the total rankings based on categories like the most members, the most active, and the most expansive alliances currently in the game. The leaderboard can be found at the Space Station core.

However, upon scanning the new interactive solar system map, players will likely see a number of new points of interest, which will then unlock even more missions and things to explore. One such event are "space hulks" and colossal shipwrecks that can be salvaged for resources and parts. Identify high-value pieces, then use No Man's Sky's unique gravity gun to haul parts with their ship's tractor beam. However, players will need to keep on their toes when salvaging because there is a limit and when too much is taken, the space hulk can enter a sort of meltdown phase. Parts can be taken to new Space Outposts which also have new missions and blueprints available, though players may also stumble into some facilities that have been overrun, which requires them to be cleared out and reclaimed.
Creative players will be happy to note that the already impressive base building elements in No Man's Sky have also expanded to allow players to build in space. Players now have the option to establish free-floating bases anywhere in space by deploying a deep-space computer. There are even large asteroids that not only have valuable resources to claim but can support a build as well should players want to create something there as well.
